The Magnificent Seven

Brent Report written by Danny

Kat and I converged at TRAID in Kilburn just after closing time to help five of their staff and volunteers put away the Summery bits that they didn’t sell in the prior few weeks of the sale - The only thing more amazing than what people will buy, is what they won’t – garments of unknowable purpose in all manner of patterns of every plant and flower and animal prints of every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth.

The task as ever was to get the items off the hangers / rails, into a few enormous boxes around the shop floor, to then be shipped out of the shop. A novel innovation this time was moving the piles of clothes across the shop floor by sliding them along the ground – quicker, more fun and possibly easier on the back keep bending down.

It took us seven about 75 mins to get the clothes and hangers away ready for the restock on Wednedsay, and reopen with all new donated bits on Thursday.

Chipping In

Brent Report written by Tabitha Skinner

On Monday evening Goodgym Brent met in Willesden , ready to return to one of our favourite tasks , Clitterhouse Farm House . We warmed up with a short round of dynamic exercises , then set of for a 2.3km run . Josh led the group , with Samina keeping up the pace. Anne Marie and Hannah supported eachother along the way, and Pete and Tabitha dragged along at the back. It was a rollercoaster ride but we made it in one piece , with red faces to match our t shirts .

Anika was eagerly awaiting our arrival , and had a choice of tasks waiting: weeding , pruning rosemary, spreading woodchip, breaking down cuttings for compost and cleaning the greenhouse windows .

We split the tasks and got to it , shortly joined by Kat and Lee who got stuck in immediately

We worked away until we began to lose daylight , stopped for a photo then jogged or walked back

We ended with a drink in Beer & burger and some more chips ... the edible kind

great job everyone !

Summer Showdown at Metro Blind Sports!

Islington Report written by Simon Fitzmaurice

Our Goodgym team were thrilled to be invited back to Metro Blind Sports, along with a lot of our friends at our Achilles International weekly group runs. Metro Blind Sports is the UK's only athletics event hosted primarily for visually impaired athletes, a very important fixture to the sporting calender.

Events on offer included classic track distances (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m and open relay), alongside high jump, long jump, shot put, javelin and discus. An incredible opportunity to witness inspiring performances from athletes traveling from far and wide to compete (experienced veterans and first timers welcomed and encouraged).

Our Goodgym crew were on hand to help with registration for athletes, coordination for events, support for competitors and judges and even guiding the runners, jumpers and throwers! Our Achilles International friends came away with an abundance of medals, PBs and big smiles- great job on a hot summer's day, guys!

Mowing Over

Brent Report written by Josh Stevens

With summer peaking through on a Monday, Tabitha, Amir, Samina and Josh welcomed the long awaited return of Karen at Beer & Burger. Before setting off to Clitterhouse Farm in Cricklewood.

With vitamin D a plenty, the group picked Kat up along the way and met Olympic walker Lee there. Arriving to a warm welcome and a task of ensuring the remnants of 3 tonnes of top soil dissipated across the gardens.

Gloves on, shovels ready, trimmers sharpened, and mower charged the crew took the task of managing soil like the bosses they are.

A strong momentum and turn out led to quick results for the volume of soil, leading to a few perspiring brows. Satisfied with the efforts and looking to catch Lee on the roads, the initial crew took off back to Beer and Burger for a well deserved beverage!
