It was a bit of an unsteady start for us at the Balance Support day centre, a charity for adults with disabilities, as we couldnāt actually get in to the task! Even after scaling the gate we were foiled by a huge bolt. Just when we were about to give up, a cleaner came to our rescue and gave us access. Wasting no time John, Dylan and Paul got busy pulling nettles, excavating brambles and clearing the walkway so the service users can access the space safely. We were joined by Alice and Janet who quickly got stuck in clearing the area and before long a big difference had been made - well done team!

The brambles and nettles are starting to become a nuisance and it would be great to get these cutback/dug up so that service users can enjoy the garden

It was truly a mega mission yesterday! Eight GGers came to help out at Wandsworth allotments on a day that started out bright and sunny and ended up being pelted with hail. The job involved shifting masses and masses of wood, metal, compost and all manner of bits and pieces that had built up over the years and now had to be moved so that the council can put up a fence around the perimeter. This was a huge job which would have been difficult for the older allotment holders. After a thorough briefing we got stuck in, wheelbarrows and secateurs at the ready. To the sound of a very insistent cockerel and watched over by a curious robin we worked hard for almost two hours until the worsening weather forced us into the shed for shelter. Great job everybody, and a huge thanks for jumping in to help!

Four GGers scrambled on Sunday to help out a community project with a last minute task. We cleared counters, cleaned cupboards and shifted kitchen equipment to get a community centre ready for healthy eating classes for local people. Have a look at a very impressive before and after shot!
