It was the first group run since the clocks changed and we were looking forward to a group run in daylight. And I was mostly looking forward to not taking dark blurry photos!
It was time for one of our regular group runs to The Albany but first we had to take a detour to see the teenage herons. It has been hit and miss recently on the amount of litter in the garden and with the grass getting longer it provided a good hiding place for the litter.
Not to be deterred and without Vic's extending litter picker, we still managed to half fill some gigantic bin bags. If they'd have been normal sized bin bags then I think we would have filled them.
It was time to say our goodbyes and head to The Brookmill for our social.

So much so that we're busy arranging a second group run to move another pile of mulch that is being delivered - keep your eyes peeled!
It was a shorter run to Ladywell Fields and then a bit more of a run to get to the mulch pile. The mulch needed to be 3 inches deep and 1m around the saplings. This is to make sure the ground retains as much water as possible to give the saplings the best chance of survival.
We split into groups, one group tackling the furthest away saplings with the wheelbarrows and the other group ferrying buckets of mulch to the nearer saplings.
We soon got into the groove and soon the pile of mulch was no more but the saplings well mulched.

After a lovely sunset, Lewisham GoodGymers assembled at Glass Mills for another evening’s activity – this time, a return to the Rural Urban Synthesis Society, better know to us as RUSS. A short sharp run was just what was needed, on a cold Monday evening, as we were met by Eleanor and assigned our tasks: clearing away topsoil in readiness for future planting, plus some soil rotivation if time allowed. Whilst a team filled sacks with soil, 2 wheelbarrows were provided to transport them to their destination… but wait, disaster: one have a VERY flat tyre, as Julian discovered during the first slow and shaky delivery!! Fear not, though, as a substitute cart was offered and ensured the sacks would keep flowing nearly as fast as they could be filled. And were they filled fast!! As our total passed 30, and a slight backlog built up, there was time to start that rotivating whilst the last sacks were taken away. After a good evening’s work, and a quick team portrait, we were rewarded with tea and biccies before our run back to base – see you again soon, RUSS, perhaps next time in some daylight!

A night off from leading this evening for and Paul was taking the Lewisham reigns! I knew we were all in safe hands and the evening would run smoothly. We started with the full GG spiel and a quick warm up before we were on our way to The Albany to tackle the litter!
Vic timed her arrival perfectly and we all covered the last 100m to The Albany together.
The task for the evening was simple, pick up as much litter as possible. We found some interesting items such as 2 scooters found in the bushes, a giant tv from the olden days, a singular slipper, an item I won't write on the run report to save you all but if you want to know ask Vic or Matt.
There was a slight pause whilst I went on the hunt for more bin bags and then by the end we had filled 6 bin bags!! Amazing work team!
Next week we are heading to RUSS, it's a shorter run and there's usually tea and biscuits at the end.
