Duncan and Lucy arrived after a 6km walk in the rain, ready for action. It was great to be greeted by a good friend at the door! Thanks Richard, sad you had to leave to do 8 hours at your real job! Signed in, tested for covid and hi-vised up we were ready to go. We had a slick handover routine as the patients were walked to their destination for the first half, then new roles. Duncan maintaining order in the car park, and Lucy escorting folk from the consultation room to the waiting room. The waiting room was like the social of the year for some people, many of whom have been isolated throughout lockdown. We had people reminiscing about the various dance halls of Pompey, exchanging stories about their grandchildren, walking adventures, school days etc. All facilitated by a lovely volunteer called Nicky. Conclusion of the moment was that with tier 4 restrictions as they are, we should be using vacant premises for the waiting room. “Hub in the pub” With a few vaccinations leftover, the standby crew at the fire station got a call and made sure none went to waste! A great feel good day with Southsea Medical Centre, who have been running 12 hour days non-stop.
