Keeping it Clean

Thursday 22nd January

Written by Lewisham runner

The short mission to help the lovely Ms L is always a pleasant one - she gets her towels and bedding washed at the laundrette every 3 weeks and we have a chat. I worried last week that it hadn’t been listed but then remembered that she’d been away over Christmas.

We caught up on our festive periods before I headed out to the laundrette.

Plog Like An Egyptian

Saturday 17th January

Written by Lewisham runner

Four people signed up for this and as it is a task that can be done at any time and anywhere, this report may get added to.

Paul and Adi had a common feature on their Lewisham litter picking - Egyptian geese, but that's as far as the similarities went. Adi was in Sydenham's.Mayow Park where not much litter was found but lots of Christmas trees, a few of which were moved to their collection point (a traditional GoodGym activity.

Paul was in Deptford's Brookmill Park where high waters on the Ravensbourne due to rain had brought lots litter downstream - there was more litter collected than there had been for several months. In other news there the more herons this week and the youngster has survived the freezing temperatures.

Georgina collected some rubbish near Pool River in Sydenham. It was very wet but she persevered and picked up a lot in 30 minutes.

I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day

Tuesday 20th January

Written by Lewisham runner

The lovely Mr J was proud of his purchase of two boxes of solar powered LED lights. He hoped that the they would provide a bit of light so that they wouldn’t need to use lights as well as looking attractive. After much discussion about the solar panels we put one set inside the kitchen windows and the second set outside the living room windows. Both of the trials were working by the time I left - Mr J was incredibly pleased!

Energy Efficiency Endeavours

Tuesday 20th January

Written by Lewisham runner

Mr J showed me some heavy duty silver bubble wrap a couple of weeks ago. It goes behind radiators to reflect heat back into the house. So it came as no surprise to find it listed as a GG mission. It was relatively straightforward cutting to size using the universally recognised unit of measure - a 2025 calendar. Mr J was really pleased!

Rolling up our sleeves!

Monday 19th January

Written by Kim

Or more like cutting up sleeves as we each cut off our preferred piece of the jumper for cleaning the windows with!

A mighty group of dedicated GoodGymers who weren't phased by the rain made their way to Senior's ready to tackle the sellotape on and around the windows.

It worked out at about a large window each and armed with window cleaning spray, WD40 and clothes, we got stuck in!

There were various techniques happening but we were making progress. Being dark outside the smears started showing and it became a task in itself to try and remove them. There were multiple methods deployed including a fresh spray of window cleaner followed by paper towels and very very very precise cleaning so the smears will definitely be uniform if not removed.

I hope the results are sparkling when the sun comes up this morning!

Great work team!!

Useless Certificates

Monday 19th January

Written by Lewisham runner

Another enjoyable session with Ms L who has MND and is unable to use her hands to sort the contents of the boxes that she brought from her previous home. Today we found a lot of certificates for courses that she had taken after leaving school including typing and shorthand at her then local FE college. I went through the certificates that I had accumulated from a similar time period which included Grade 3 piano. Our consensus was that hers were more use than mine in employment terms but neither were of any lasting use.

There was lots of laughter and reminiscing which was followed by tea and cakes. It’s was a lovely way to spend any afternoon.
