After last week's conversation with Ms D about her plans for sausage and mash, I was pleased to see that this week both ingredients were on the list, although I did have to clarify if her request really was for just one potato (it was..."for mashing"). Armed with an envelope of largely loose change accumulated from previous week's shopping visits, it proved to be a straightforward trek around the quiet aisles, with only the bare shelves of mint dark chocolate letting us down on today's list.

It was another chilly night in Westminster, which made it even more clear that our regular task helping distribute clothes and bedding on the Strand makes a big impact.
Thankfully we had plenty of hands on deck, and it was brilliant to be able to welcome Andy and Louise to their first ever session great to have you both join us!
It's a popular spot for getting resources like hot food and other donations to those that need it most, so it was pretty hectic! We didn't have to wait long for Andrea to arrive with her van, and soon got to work.
With Khai jumping into the van to help get the boxes out in some sort of order, the rest of us hauled the clothes and bedding across the street to hang them out in a makeshift fashion display! We soon had jackets, trousers, sleeping bags and shoes out for people to choose what they needed most.
The time flew by, and before long most of the donations had been handed out. Great work everybody!
Next week we'll be meeting at Victoria to pick up and transport surplus food to rough sleepers - hope to see you there!

As we ran through today's list, Ms D was keen to point out that whilst most of the list looked familiar, she had introduced a few different items (I thought initially to keep my on my toes...), but as she explained "it's good to mix things up once in a while", for which I gave her my wholehearted agreement.
So alongside the familiars, today's trip to the polite aisles involved a visit to the deli counter for sausages (Ms D already had a potato ready for her sausage and mash dinner), feta cheese (which took some finding amongst the vast array of choice), and a "small tin" of baked beans - for which we deliberated during the briefing as to what size this actually meant.
In the end everything fitted into the basket, and more conveniently into her large bag for life, and after witnessing a bit of "unexpected activity" in the check out area, I was soon home with everything she'd asked for this week. A quick drop off of her rubbish outside and it was mission complete for another week.

Two visits to Pret and a local bakery, two GoodGymers, one very cold evening - the result? Masses of food which would otherwise be thrown away reaches rough sleepers on the streets of Westminster.
While we walked, packed and waited there was plenty of running chat, covering the best ultras to do, the benefits of running the London marathon backwards, and how run has got very...vibey!
Thanks so much to Will who stepped in to help transport the huge amount of sandwiches, rolls, salads and delicious baked goods with his trusty ikea bag! We wouldn't have been able to transport nearly as much to those who need it most without the help!

After a thorough pre-shop briefing from Ms D this morning, with particular reference to her section on frozen beans and what to find at the fresh fish counter (breaded haddock - it was after all fish Friday), it was a drizzly walk to Waitrose with fingers firmly crossed that the aisles would have all that she was asking for this week.
The best news was that the frozen broad beans were finally back in stock as this then removed any discretionary decision I might have needed to make as to alternatives (edamame, peas...) if the baby broad beans weren't to be found.
After that everything else largely fell into place in the basket - albeit Ms D's request for 2 x 2 pint cartons of semi skimmed were substituted by 4 x 1 pints as the 2 pint shelves were bare today.

I discovered today that not all frozen chicken nuggets are the same, or at least the size of the bags of them - for my last shop I found a 1kg bag for Mrs G (which from memory contained at least 50 pieces), whereas in the freezers today the only available bag was 30 - as to why the size of the bag varies from week to week I am clearly unqualified to say, but it did mystify me (and Mrs G when I got back with her treasure). As they strapline says "when they're gone, they're gone"
I've still also yet to perfect the art of packing and carrying a large baguette from Lidl to her front door without it breaking in half - without resorting to stereotypes, I feel a bicycle, a beret and a string of onions might offer the solution...
