... well, the screw wasn't so much loose as completely absent! After unpacking the new planter at Hilsea Station, assembly became more difficult as the fixtures and fittings were missing. DIY Dave was able to work out what was missing so Jane from Community Spotlight has a shopping list to officially complete the task.
Whilst Jane nipped home to bring some compost, to help keep the planter in place, we tried growing our own Dave and Betsy plants. Unfortunately, there was not a lotnof success. We then got our GoodGym on, carrying big sacks of compost and top soil and loading the planters.
Sinéad, Sam and John cleared some of the litter from the platforms whilst sharing ideas and contacts to help with the station greening project.
The rain couldn't quite stay away, and our run back to the Lido was more than a bit soggy, however a few more kms were logged for the January Challenge.

We joined a group of local volunteers to clear litter from the station platforms; through the railway fencing; and in the adjacent streets.
Just one hour later and we'd filled multiple sacks and the area was a more pleasant environment for the Hilsea train travellers.

Jane joined Dave and I for the final installment of our epic day at the Spot of Activity Showcase.
She arrived just in time to join me for a work out demo with Rock Fit - an aerobic dance class to some absolute headbangers!
As stallholders started packing up and heading home, we got to work folding tables and chairs and dropping them off to either be collected by van or shimmied in to the walk-in freezer!

After our busy set-up session, we retired briefly to the cafe at the Skate Park for a rejuvenating coffee and breakfast bap.
Our stall for the day was next to our good friends from Spark Community Space, who we will be visiting for our Group Run this week.
We really enjoyed watching the demonstrations from other groups, including Ludosport, Ballroom Dancing and Roller Derby. Possibly the highlight of the day was a gentleman in full chainmail armour twerking to the Caledonian Bagpipe band. That is also a sentence I never expected to say!
It was lovely to meet other local organisations and see what else is out there in Portsmouth. I even got to join in with the Rock Fit workout, which was very good fun!

This morning's task at Pitt Street involved a lot more thinking than expected, alongside the heavy lifting!
Jane from Community Spotlight had a list of stall holders and a stack of tables, so we put our heads together to come up with a table plan that made the most of the space.
The tables were actually exam tables borrowed from a local school, and we enjoyed reading the graffiti from over the years! The messages were generally a lot more motivational than the crude drawings of my teenage years, wishing fellow students good luck and best wishes. The most impressive was a fully annotated periodic table drawn on the desk in biro.
Pitt Street Skate Park is inside the former Sainsburys building, so pulling tables out of a walk in freezer was a bit of a novelty too!

Four miles. Five venues. One pleasant lunchtime stroll.
After several very wet and stormy weekends, it made a nice change to enjoy a bit of winter sun whilst doing good and getting fit.
