Rejoining the Luton and Dunstable Conservation Volunteers after a bit of an unintentional break we were working today on the Warden Hill Meadow, a grassland nature reserve on the edge of Luton.
Parts of the meadow had clumps of scrub tree growth, mostly hawthorn and blackthorn which is left unchecked would rapidly spread across the meadow.
We took saws and loppers to the clumps of scrub to reduce their size, leaving a landscape of grassland with a few trees dotted around. Perfect for ensuring that the grassland and the rare species that depend on it is preserved!

10 of Luton Goodgyms elite, helped the Friends of Leagrave Park with their last litterpick of 2024. We were joined by members of the local community and 2 special guests as Father Christmas and Spiderman joined the volunteers. As ever the haul was hefty, 27 bags of waste collected with the usual intriguing odds and sods. A car tyre, a shopping trolley (of course), and a cool Thunderbirds action figure. Duncan deserves a massive shout out for pulling on the waders and getting into the river Lea to grab rubbish we feel like we've been looking at for months. Great effort team š You are all amazing š

Octobers community litterpick at People's park was well attended, 6 of the 14 that turned out were from Luton's Goodgym elite. The team got stuck in to the task at hand and helped to collect 19 bags of rubbish (8 of which were filled with recycling ā»ļø). A toy helicopter was found too and it was also recycled as a lady came passed with her grandson and asked if she could have it. The team also helped to trim back some of the trees š³ š³ š³ that were overhanging the footpath. Well done everyone, great effort š

7 Goodgymers joined abcd-in-luton and the FoLP for the monthly litterpick at Leagrave Park. The team were out enjoying what was a relatively mild autumn š day as we all did our best to help keep the park clear of rubbish š. After an hour collecting litter, we'd all collected 15 bags in total, a children's bike and several parts to what we think was a quad bike. Great effort by the team and definitely really appreciated by the community. Well done š āļø šš»
