2 Goodgymers from the Luton massive supported Bramingham residents on a community litterpick as part of the Great British Spring Clean led by abcd-in-luton.
The turn out for the event was amazing with roughly 30 individuals ready to fill bags as part of this national initiative.
The litterpick only lasted an hour but the group still managed to collect a vast haul of rubbish from the local area.
Litterpicks often throw up little surprises but occasionally you finds something that puts a smile on your face on a personal level. Today whilst pulling bottles and cans from a hedgerow, I found a toy police car which reminded me of many years ago when I would play with cars for hours as a young boy. It genuinely gave me a warm feeling inside. Unfortunately it only had 2 wheels so couldn't really be passed on to anyone else to have fun with.
It was a really great event and really felt like the group was a community that cared.
Great effort today Goodgym, our support was greatly appreciated. 👍🏻

It was a great pleasure to be part of this program today, indeed I made a good decision joining Goodgym!
Well I guess it would be nice.... to do another litterpick at Leagrave Park. This month along with helping the FoLP with their monthly litterpick, this task was also helping Kevin from ABCD-IN-LUTON complete another leg of his Great British Spring Clean challenge, where he is working with lots of different community groups to help get Luton Tidy and Keep Britian Tidy as part of a national initiative that he has spearheaded locally for the last few years. 6 Luton Goodgymers joined some local residents to see what they could find on the walk around the park today. A purse, an iPhone, a rather scary knife (which was dealt with appropriately) a sign for a car boot sale, the arm of a sofa and a drone amongst other delights all added to a haul of roughly 20 bags of rubbish. The team had fun too some taking on the woodland, others enjoying a nice stroll in the sunshine and a couple opting to get the waders on and head into the river Lea. But before that river becomes an ocean I need to give a shout out to our GG first timer Osama Faith. I hope you enjoyed the task and we look forward to seeing you out with the team again soon. Another great effort today team 👏 Well done everyone.

Gill and Joe joined the lunchtime litter pick organised by Luton Bid and ABCD. There was a lot of litter around the town centre and we worked fast to clean up as much as we could. There was the usual variety of "interesting" items, including the obligatory flagon of liquid that was definitely NOT Tizer, and Gill managed to find a fan amongst the rubbish. We were lucky that the threatened rain kept away until we were done, and returned to work.
Well done Joe for completing your first community mission.

This Sunday 4 Luton Goodgymers joined the Limbury Residents and Kev from ABCD-IN-LUTON on the next leg of the Great British Spring Clean.
15 attendees (including Spiderman and a dog) spent an hour collecting all sorts of treasures from clothes and shoes 👞 , to power tools and quite a considerable amount of red wine bottles. Someone definitely enjoyed themselves down there recently. 25 bags were collected and Kev heads off to his next event.
Well done team, great effort this morning 🌄 👏 👍🏻 💪 👌

Well done to the trio from GoodGym who joined the London Road Litter Pick team this morning to help with the first of our Great British Spring Clean events. We were made to feel very welcome and soon got busy tidying up the London Road Area. We must have found every brand of beer and cider in the bushes by the medical centre not to mention some unmentionable items. Martin literally got "stuck in" in the middle of the bushes to help dislodge as much liter as he could. By the end of the session there was a huge pile of rubbish - including over 30 bags of litter, bottles and cans, a bag of nitrous oxide cannisters, several pairs of shoes and a pushchair.
It was a good effort by all and London Road is looking much better for your efforts. Thanks.

It was a misty, drizzly night for a group run but that didn't stop some of Luton's finest coming out for a mid-week good deed in the middle of a 5km run around town. We had five runners and three walkers taking it easy up one of Luton's many hills.
This week's task was litter picking a trashy hotspot in a green space on a residential road, Saywell Road to be precise. We were acting on a tip-off from area PCSO Caroline Lawson who had noticed this evidence of antisocial behaviour on her patrols, and called us in to assist.
We set to work on what at first seemed like a quick and easy job, but under the scattering of leaves, layer upon layer of rubbish was revealed and the task started to become a bit epic. We started off with beer cans and food packets but soon found some random household items in the leafy mix including drawers, kids toys, a hula hoop and even a TV. Keeping on going we found many plastic car body panels and a wheel clamp.
Fortunately we had Kevin Poulton on hand from ABCD Luton to help with the logistics, providing the bags and the pickers and a whole lot of clean-up experience. Early on we started finding big canisters of nitrous oxide and they just kept on coming. We pulled out boxes full of them, in the end we got over 50! Digging a little deeper we uncovered a buried stash of prescription drugs, enough to fill a bucket, which we also found in the bushes! All in all we counted 53 bags of rubbish collected and that doesn't even include all the oversized bits we gathered. Not bad for 40 minutes of picking!
With the epic pile stacked neatly by the roadside for collection by the council, we bid it and its dodgy smells goodbye to complete our 5km journey for the evening.
But that wasn't all the epicness for the day, because by completing this task Martin completed an epic haul of 400 good deeds, and all in a little over three years, now that's dedication!
