What a beautiful evening for tonight's task!
Shortly before 7 a good-sized group gathered in the corner of the Royal London Hospital forecourt to speed through tonight's short fitness session.
It was a fantastic area to workout in, complete with steps and small walls, perfect for shoulder-taps and step-ups.
We headed over to meet the rest of the team after a few stretches, delighted to see how steadily our little group was growing.
Following a briefing from Nancy and Richard, we divided into small teams, each tackling one of these large planters.
The planters are a good addition to the A&E area of The Royal London Hospital, but needed a good weeding after a damp and mild start to summer. Armed with gloves and bin bags, off we headed, determined to get the better of some giant thistles, nettles & co.
To say it didn't take the team long was an understatement. The first planter was clear well before 7:30, leaving plenty of time to turn the soil, ready for Operation Planter Part II.
With a new team put to work on weed and rubbish disposal, we were done and dusted - literally - at a quarter to 8!
What a fun evening.
A big shout-out to the team, especially to Ismet, who joined for his first, brilliant task.
Next week, we're back to the Yurt Cafe for one last final push in the landscaping project!
Until then.

This blustery Monday evening saw us heading to a brand new task in Limehouse.
Starting with a short fitness session outside the café, GoodGymers joined one-by-one enjoying the use of the outdoor furniture for seated leg lowers, tricep dips and a most effective hamstring stretch.
The Royal Foundation of St Katherine is a retreat centre and ‘urban oasis’ in Limehouse, established by Queen Matilda in 1147.
Task owner Larry, previously of St Leonard’s Priory Park, is heading up the project to transform a disused space around the popular Yurt Café into ‘a monastic-inspired garden of reflection with herbs, sensory plants and new seating.’
Our task tonight was to dismantle the planters, pot up trees and shrubs - and fill the skip!
GoodGymers wasted no time in putting the PPE to good use. Armed with sturdy gloves, protective eyewear, hammers and screwdrivers, several teams headed to the planters to start the dismantling.
A task requiring a bit of strength, plenty of strategic thinking and a fair amount of patience, the GoodGymers made good progress. Removing the sides of the planters, examining the wood, sorting debris, no sooner had they finished one planter, they headed over to the second.
Meanwhile a second team were tasked with digging up a larger planter towards the end of the row; salvaging some trees and shrubs, re-potting them and moving them carefully to one side.
It was a hive of activity: sifting through dozens of objects from surplus plant pots, coconut shells to well-established snails, the team worked continuously until after 8.
Finishing with a final few frenzied trips to the skip and a discussion on the optimum spot for our last pic, we concluded it had been an excellent night.
We return to the task next month, with a two-part task to help Larry blitz the clearing project in time for the redevelopment!
...Meanwhile, next week sees us heading to the Cranbrook Community Centre, for some more leaf-clearing and other gardening tasks.
Until then.

It’s time tuber-n the boats and the food service started at 1pm. Victoria joined before the start of the shift and was going to help serve meals to the guests. Steph Ducat still in the kitchen and Kat longer as noticed a lot of guests and wanted to help a bit longer. It was time to get smashed or mashed 🤔 Lentil soup as starters, chicken stew with mashed potatoes, vegetables and a side salad. Veggie curry for non chicken eaters. Then a delicious apple struddle with yoghurt as dessert. Thanks Spud the team nailed it despite being busy.

First time for Kat ESK who joined the Tea Rex dinosaur Steph Ducat. Steph in the kitchen and welcomed Kat who was assigned to the tea station. Quiet start and Kat enjoyed her shift and chatted to alot of guests and talked history by the sounds of it. Usual stuff for the kitchen with some chopping, mashing, beating veggies and fruit cooking meat for the lunch service . Kat then came to help in the service area to setup tables etc. More and more people were coming in and looking forward to eat delicious food.
