Perfect conditions for parkwalking and tail walking at Southsea parkrun, helping the vent happen for 390 parkrunners.
A pebble photoshoot was followed by the run brief and the very busy start that eventually rippled through to us walkers. Setting off along the prom withbb by lots of chat, the sea was beautiful alongside the promenade.
Passing the yomping Royal Marine, we were also passed by the front runners, still in a big pack and looking much hotter than us peaceful walkers!
Even the gentle breeze on the return leg was lovely, and super efficient scanners meant the results were processed super fast - well done everyone!

We had a variety of jobs to cover at Parkrun this morning.
Jane and Laura left us early to head onto the course to take up marshalling points. Vicki and Sinéad had a lovely walk together and were the GG photography team. Yvonne was ensuring each runner got their correct time, and wondered if a cattle prob and electric finish funnel would make people behave! And Jen and Dave were up and at them early (much to the formers annoyance) to complete course setup before taking on the timers duties. Maybe the extra time in bed would've been beneficial as Jen counted in an extra 23 runners compared to Daves spot on timekeeping. But didn't beat the record of 30 additional runners that have been counted at a previous run!

GoodGym Portsmouth were out en masse to get our January Challenge off to a flying start this morning.
We covered a range of roles at Southsea parkrun, from handing out finish tokens to barcode scanning and marshalling to token sorting. We also saw a few other GoodGymers out logging some kilometres, so we are now on the leaderboard for both distance and deeds this year.
We were also treated to a special performance of Auld Lang Syne on the bagpipes by Pompey running royalty Dan Del Piccolo.
Happy New Year, GoodGym!!

It was a rather blustery morning down at Southsea parkrun today, but eight hardy GoodGymmers braved the cold and the wind to lend a hand.
Katie and Dave were our early birds, out completing the course check and setting up ahead of the event.
Catherine and Judy (who definitely wasn't late!) took up marshalling positions along the prom, whilst Tony was out on the course supporting and pacing for friend of GoodGym, S.
Back at the start line, Jo, Wilson and myself made up half of the barcode scanning team, enjoying small talk from the runners. There were definitely mixed feelings about the weather this morning!
Thank you to everyone who came down, RD Stephen was super grateful for all our efforts this morning.

A calm, sunny and crisp Saturday was perfect to help out at Southsea parkrun this morning. A huge congratulations to Wilson who made it to 200 good deeds today and a massive welcome to Georgina and Meghan who joined us for their first Goodgym community mission. Make sure you give them both a cheer. We all had a mixture of tasks this morning, Jo north was there early to assist with the pre event setup and then allocated to bar code scanning. Meghan and Georgina were the turn point so unfortunately we didn’t get much of a chance to talk but hopefully we can do that on other missions and group runs. Aoife was a very keen and eager bar code scanner making sure everyone knew where we were. Sinéad was handing out the tokens to the finishers and there was large number today due to the nice weather so was very busy. Dr Jo, India and Judy were marshalling along the prom and then assisted with the token sorting alongside Wilson who ran and then helped to sort the tokens. Ellie was parkrun walker and post event close down and asked if we fancied a dip in the sea afterwards with her. Sadly a lot of us had other plans that didn’t involve going into the freezing sea. We’re nearing towards the end of the January challenge and we still have a few community missions listed for the rest of the month. Have a look here for what is going on.
