Nendy here, Nendy there

Wednesday 29th January

Written by Judy Knapp

No apologies for over-use of the acronym 'Nendy', now that I've learnt it!

Running, walking, volunteering, spreading the GoodGym message.... we travelled far, and not so far, to tick off our Nendy.

Set up & go!

Saturday 4th January

Written by Dave M

A very cold morning saw us helping set up parkrun 🏃‍♂️, scanning barcodes 📶 and cheering everyone on in our GG wear.

It was lovely to see Wilson visiting from nearby Southampton, hope the beach running after was fun 🫣 And a bonus Rosie dishing out some well dones in stealth mode of non-gg t-shirt.

We were all amazed at how big Utah had gotten after being a tiny pup just a few short months ago!

Once the runners had come in we headed off to enjoy our Saturdays.

The youngest parkrun volunteer?

Saturday 28th September 2024

Written by Jane

The stunning 17 week old Utah was enjoying his first time volunteering at Southsea Parkrun this morning as part of his guide dog training.

After swooning over him for a bit, I helped scan the barcodes and congratulated the participants.

Sunny Saturday Southsea parkrun

Saturday 14th September 2024

Written by Melanie Young (she/her)

Perfect conditions for parkwalking and tail walking at Southsea parkrun, helping the vent happen for 390 parkrunners.

A pebble photoshoot was followed by the run brief and the very busy start that eventually rippled through to us walkers. Setting off along the prom withbb by lots of chat, the sea was beautiful alongside the promenade.

Passing the yomping Royal Marine, we were also passed by the front runners, still in a big pack and looking much hotter than us peaceful walkers!

Even the gentle breeze on the return leg was lovely, and super efficient scanners meant the results were processed super fast - well done everyone!

Perplexing Potterings

Saturday 20th January 2024

Written by Dave M

We had a variety of jobs to cover at Parkrun this morning.

Jane and Laura left us early to head onto the course to take up marshalling points. Vicki and Sinéad had a lovely walk together and were the GG photography team. Yvonne was ensuring each runner got their correct time, and wondered if a cattle prob and electric finish funnel would make people behave! And Jen and Dave were up and at them early (much to the formers annoyance) to complete course setup before taking on the timers duties. Maybe the extra time in bed would've been beneficial as Jen counted in an extra 23 runners compared to Daves spot on timekeeping. But didn't beat the record of 30 additional runners that have been counted at a previous run!

2024 is off with a Bagpipe!

Monday 1st January 2024

Written by Jen Stoneham

GoodGym Portsmouth were out en masse to get our January Challenge off to a flying start this morning.

We covered a range of roles at Southsea parkrun, from handing out finish tokens to barcode scanning and marshalling to token sorting. We also saw a few other GoodGymers out logging some kilometres, so we are now on the leaderboard for both distance and deeds this year.

We were also treated to a special performance of Auld Lang Syne on the bagpipes by Pompey running royalty Dan Del Piccolo.

Happy New Year, GoodGym!!
